2009 Central American Student Games in Costa Rica.

Costa Rica was chosen as the host for the Central American Student Games next year, for which the Government will invest ¢800 million in organizing. The money is already included in the budget of the Ministry of Public Education (MEP by its initials in Spanish) for next year.

These resources will be used to address logistics details such as lodging, food and transportation of delegations, but does not include improving the infrastructure of the sites. For this reason, the Costa Rican Institute of Sport (ICOD by its initials in Spanish) will make a contribution but the amount is not yet determined.

The support of the private sector will be sought in order to make this a successful activity because these games are an annual meeting that brings together high school athletes from Central America. It is projected that between 2,000 and 2,500 athletes will be received in 2009. The activities will take place the first or second week of September.

Costa Rica’s aim is to able to take third place in the medals table because it has been seen that occupying first or second place in front of El Salvador and Guatemala, countries that spend a lot of money preparing their athletes, is very difficult. In Honduras this year, Costa Rica took fourth place in the medals table.

These games include 15 sports disciplines. The idea is to dispute the vast majority of events in facilities within or very close to Metropolitan Park La Sabana.

TicosLand.com, Costa Rica’s leading web directory, wishes the Central American sportspeople the best success and especially Costa Ricans, who are already beginning their preparations for next year. We will see what happens in the events. It is always good to invest in sports, which translates into health and well-begin for all.

We invite you to read more about Costa Rica and TicosLand.com in our internal blogs and forums.
