Costa Rica is a desired tourist destination.
Costa Rica is the number one choice when visitors put their fingers on a world map to choose their holiday destination in Latin America.
This privileged position of was released by the tourism magazine Travel Weekly last December.
”We are very proud to have received an award in this category mainly because the choice is carried out by key members of the American tourism industry, which recognizes the quality of the Costa Rican tourism product and we are committed to continuing to improve as a destination," said the Minister of Tourism, Carlos Ricardo Benavides.
This is not the first time that Costa Rica has bee recognized as the number one choice. In fact, it is the fifth consecutive time that it surpasses the other nations in the area.
Figures from the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT by its initials in Spanish) claim that Costa Rica had just over 2 million tourists in 2008. In monetary figures, the visits
accounted for $2.2 billion in revenue for the country.
The initiative of Travel Weekly’s Reader’s Choice Awards, done through the website
American website had more than 180,000 voters this year.
Those involved are from the sectors of travel agents, hoteliers, suppliers and corporations of the U.S. tourism industry.
The survey was conducted the last six years and includes 55 different categories.
The American industry that classified the order of the countries through the voting
based its criteria on different standards.
Among the included points are the product quality and tourist activities for visitors. In the country, the ICT said that some other advantages that Costa Rica has as a tourist destination is the warmth of the Costa Rican citizenry and unparalleled natural landscape.
Our nation has an area of 26.3% which is protected and attractions such as two coasts, with the peculiarity of having a wide variety of sites in a small territory and close to the capital. The country had 90,000 known species of flora and 3.5% of the
biodiversity of the planet.
This is something that we at TicosLand.com are proud to mention because tourism represents one of the largest sources of income for Costa Rica. The most important thing here is to bear in mind that we must take care of our natural beauty and administer it in an intelligent manner so that we can receive even more benefits.
