Organic shoes?
A group of young students from the career of industrial design of the Technological Institute of Costa Rica (ITCR by its initials in Spanish) created shoes from organic products as part of their final projects in their current methods of product development course.
Kristel Villalobos, one of the creators, said that they used organic materials such as jute, cotton and water lily fibers.
As for the design, the university student said, “A friend we have in Spain did us the favor of interviewing 10 women. They, being so tall, asked for something with a low heel, comfortable and very summery colors.”
The young lady was accompanied by Alexa Vargas and Paola Badilla on the project. They agreed that the shoe is “friendlier” to the environment since it is made of organic materials.
Another advantage is that the shoes, which are aimed at women, prevent excessive sweating, decrease disease and are more comfortable.
The young ladies said that during the semester they were devoted to making sketches and focused on making the pieces once the style was defined.
Laura Gomez, Carolina Ferret and Royner Rojas also decided to develop women's shoes.
Gomez, a third year industrial design student, said that they analyzed sketches for four months and then produced a modern product that can be “used in every occasion.”
These students, in addition to using jute and water lily fiber, used hemp in their prototypes.
As for the sole of the shoe, it looks like wood, to reinforce the idea that the footwear is friendly to the environment.
Both groups had the advice of Lucrecia Loría, a shoe designer who has a workshop in Tierra Blanca, Cartago, Costa Rica.
The young people said they might Loría might take the products and mass market them due to their acceptance.
Congratulations young men and women boys from TicosLand.com. Proposals such as yours allow others to see that there is ingenuity and creativity in Costa Rica, which also goes hand in hand with the environment, and these options can create business opportunities on a large scale if is handled well.
