Two more schools offer the International Baccalaureate program in Costa Rica.
Two more schools will join the small group of Costa Rican high schools offering the International Baccalaureate program.
They will be the Colegio de Senoritas (Ladies’ High School) and Manuel Benavides High School in Heredia, which now find themselves completing the process prior to authorization.
The IB, which is recognized in prestigious universities abroad, aims to train more critical students through a learning method that favors reasoning over memorization.
Students begin a more rigorous program of study beginning with tenth grade. It includes more training in Mathematics, Science, English, History of the Americas, Creativity, Knowledge Theory and Information Technology. They will be given until the twelfth grade to obtain the diploma.
The Ladies’ and Manuel Benavides High School will receive support from the International Baccalaureate Association of Costa Rica (Asobitico by its initials in Spanish), which will seek the $60,000 (¢37 million) that is needed to graduate 35 students per year.
Daniel Samper, executive director of Asobitico explained that both schools must improve their infrastructure, while the association will donate laboratory equipment and library books.
The first public schools that entered the program were: Costa Rica and Palmares High Schools. Five private schools are also involved: British, Lincoln, European, Mundo Unido (United World) and Blue Valley.
This allows more young people from Costa Rica to have the opportunity to develop in educational programs with an international stature, which opens doors to universities around the world. They only need to look for grants or scholarships that will give them the opportunity to study at a university abroad.
TicosLand.com applauds the initiative of these two schools in joining this venture and give this opportunity to their students.
